The drowning of a 6-year-old boy in an in-ground pool in LaPorte on Sunday evening has been ruled an accident.
The boy, identified as Ayden Penfold, was found by his 11-year-old sister at the bottom of an pool at a family friend's home on Keston Elm Drive around 6:30 p.m. After she pulled Ayden from the water, bystanders began performing CPR and 9-1-1 was called with the LaPorte Fire Department responding.
The boy was taken to LaPorte Hospital and was pronounced dead at 7:30 p.m. Central Standard Time. The death was ruled as an accidental drowning in an official autopsy. The LaPorte County coroner says Ayden was in a floating ring in the pool but the boy didn't fit in the ring correctly.
Parents told officials that the child could dog-paddle but could not swim well.
