UPDATE: All Toll Road lanes back open after four-vehicle accident

The Toll Road was shut down for hours Sunday after a four-vehicle accident in LaPorte County.

All lanes are back open on the Toll Road after an accident closed east and westbound lanes in LaPorte County.

It happened a little after 3 p.m. on Sunday near mile marker 57.

A semi going eastbound blew a tire, smashed into the guardrail crossing into the westbound lanes and ended up in the northside ditch. A PT Cruiser then slammed on its brakes to avoid the semi and two cars smashed into it.

A 26-year-old Chicago resident was brought to the hospital by ambulance for cuts and bruises. He has been released, and no one else was injured.

At one point, traffic was backed up in the westbound lane for more than three miles.
