It's been eight years since the Marian High School community lost one of their own. Senior Eric Henry was killed in a car accident the day after making his Lenten promise on Ash Wednesday.
He made a promise for lent that he would clean out his closet and give away everything he didn't use to charity. Unfortunately Eric was never able to fulfill this promise, so his mom, the school and local businesses kept it going.
"He talked about being more giving and he started by gathering some of his clothes that didn't fit or used and donating them to the St Vincent de Paul society. The next day Eric died in a car accident, so I wanted to fulfill his promise and took those myself," said Eric's mom Mary Molnar.
Since Eric's death Molnar and Eric's sister have worked with St Vincent de Paul to hold an annual donation drive to carry on his legacy.
"This is really, hands down, our biggest donation drive, it's the most consolidated effort that we make in any given year," said Charlie Thompson with St Vincent de Paul.
More than 60 businesses supported Eric's Promise this year.
Since 2002 the drive has raised more than 100,000 lbs. of food and clothing.
