It was so loud at North Side Gym Friday night, that Warsaw point guard Nic Moore admits he screwed a couple plays up because he thought he heard what coach Doug Ogle screamed.

Apparently, he mis-heard.

As it turns out, it was Concord's box and one defense that gave Moore even more fits.

And yet, the junior still scored 11 points in the 4th quarter including two clutch free throws in the final 25 seconds to lead the Tigers to a 53-51 thrilling victory over Concord in the 4A sectional semifinals Friday night.

Moore was 9-of-10 from the free throw line in the 4th, finishing with 18 total points for the game.

Concord took a 39-34 lead into the 4th, when Moore brought the Tigers back. He stole a pass and dropped in a bucket to tie the game at 41. Moore then made a beautiful back door pass to Jordyn Coons to give Warsaw a 49-46 lead with 1:00 left in the game.

But the Minutemen answered quickly. Larone Smith hit a three to tie the score. Smith finished with a game-high 26.

With 25 seconds left, Moore drove the lane and was fouled. He made both free throws to to put the Tigers up 51-49. With 10 seconds left, Smith would miss a game-tying jumper, grab the rebound and miss again.

Moore would then snag it and ice the game at the free throw line.

Moore said he also got some helpful advise from his brother Michael, who led Concord to a sectional championship five years ago. Nic joked that it was fun to beat his brother's team.

Warsaw will face Memorial in the 4a Sectional Final Saturday night at 7:30 at North Side Gym.

The Chargers defeated Northridge 56-47 in the other semifinal. Michael Kibiloski led the way with 20 points.

In South Bend, Jeff Laidig scored 16 points as Penn defeated Riley 51-44 to advance to the 4A sectional championship.

It was the 3rd meeting between the schools with the Kingsmen taking the rubber match. Penn beat Riley for the conference Holiday Hoops championships then the Wildcats won the regular season meeting. That victory allowed the Wildcats to win the NIC regular season championship, finishing conference play at a perfect 8-0.

But none of that matters now. Trailing 20-18 at halftime, Penn caught fire in the 3rd quarter, outscoring the Wildcats by 13 in the period to take an 11 point lead into the 4th.

Riley would rally to close the lead to three but Nathan Laidig hit a clutch three to end the rally.

The Kingsmen will face Washington in the sectional championship game at 7:30 Saturday night at Riley.

The Panthers defeated Mishawaka 58-53 to advance to the finals for the 3rd straight season. Washington has lost the last two championship games in the final five seconds.

Jerron Jamerson scored the first 13 points of the game for Washington which led by a point after one and two points at the half.

Jamerson finished with 23 points but would foul out midway through the 2nd half and Mishawaka took control, leading 45-42 after three.

But Washington rallied to pull out the win.
