An SUV that once represented one of America's largest trucks is now collapsing.

A Chinese company, Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machines, announced they would no long buy the Hummer Brand. Hummer officials say plans are already in the works to dissolve the line.

In Mishawaka the AM General Plant has not produced a Hummer in the past year.

The plant stopped producing the H1 in 2006, the H2 in 2009, and the H3 is made in Louisiana. At one point AM General hoped to start building H2s again but market demand declined.

AM General's future now rides on two other deals. One, plans are in the works to build handicap accessible taxi-cabs in place of H2s. Second, the company hopes to win a bid to the build the “joint light tactical vehicle” that will replace the Humvee.

Hummer enthusiasts are disappointed to see the SUV leave the market.

There are fan clubs around the country and Hummer owners in Michiana have pride knowing it was built in Mishawaka.

Plus many are still optimistic a buyer could come forth in the last days before the brand dissolves officially.

"I don't think it is going to end. You know there are cars that have discontinued and there are car clubs for those cars. So there will always be enthusiasts,” says Hummer enthusiast and club member Jim Renner.

"We still aren't giving up hope on it. We still feel there is a strong market out there on Hummer vehicles and we have a very local and active Hummer fan base," says Hummer spokesperson Nick Richards.

Meanwhile three thousand people work for Hummer across the country and will likely have to find other jobs.

Hummer owners can still have their vehicles serviced at local dealerships. Plus their warranties will still be honored.
