The price is a lot higher than a state lottery ticket, but the odds of winning are a lot better. Housing Opportunities of Warsaw is hosting a raffle, putting up a $215,000 brand-new home as the prize.

Housing Opportunities of Warsaw Inc. is a non-profit certified housing development organization. They’ve teamed up with Coffel Construction.

The house is located at 33 Sassafras Court in Warsaw, in the Northwest Woods subdivision, ¼ mile off of S.R. 15. It is a 3-bedroom home with a 2-car garage. The great room has 10-foot ceilings, and the rest of the home has 9-foot ceilings. It is on city water and sewer and close to downtown Warsaw. The appliances will go with the house, but the furniture will not unless arrangements are made.

The tickets cost $100 each. They can be purchased at the home on Friday, December 18 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. or on Saturday, December 19, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at Mutual Bank in Warsaw on E. Market St. The drawing will be at 4 p.m. that day.

Only 4,000 tickets will be sold, and the house will be only be given away if 3,000 are sold. You can also get one by calling (574) 269-7641 or go to the Housing Opportunities of Warsaw office located at 827 S. Union Street Suite 230.

The proceeds from the raffle will be used to repair homes of low-to-moderate income, elderly, and disabled families throughout Kosciusko County. The organization says each $100 donation will bring in $1,000 of federal money to replace leaking roofs, repair septic, and install heating systems, etc. to make homes safe for families.

The builder says it is low-maintenance and would be great for a starter home.

"All of the money stays in Warsaw, or in the community, Kosciusko County, and helps out people in need, you know, people with wheel-chair ramps, maybe have a leaky roof," said Matt Coffel of Coffel Construction. "It's a win-win situation for everybody."
