The emergency room at St. Joseph Medical Center in downtown Mishawaka will close next month.
A source with knowledge of the situation tells NewsCenter 16 the free standing ER in Mishawaka will close when the new med center on Douglas Road opens December 14th.
According to a hospital spokesperson, the original plan called for the ER in downtown Mishawaka to remain open even after St. Joe moved. A date for its closure was to be decided at some point after that.
But now, all ER facilities in Mishawaka will be based at the new hospital.
Mishawaka mayor Jeff Rea was reportedly told of the news Wednesday.
Meantime, the source also tells NewsCenter 16 the Our Lady of Peace Rehab Center inside St. Joe Med Center in South Bend will be moved to the downtown Mishawaka facility.
Stay with NewsCenter 16 for the latest developments as St. Joseph Regional Medical Center opens its new hospital in Mishawaka.
