University of Notre Dame head football coach Brian Kelly will appear from 6-7 pm ET today at Meijer located at 5020 Grape Road in Mishawaka, Ind., with Kristen Johnson, Meijer’s healthy living advisor.
Kelly will help Johnson cook healthy items for fans in attendance and discuss the importance of having a good diet and exercising.Kelly will also talk about the emphasis he places on proper nutrition with Notre Dame’s football players.
Following Kelly’s hiring, Notre Dame implemented a training table program in January 2010 so it could monitor the dinner its football team was consuming each night. This program was hugely successful as players were able to maintain their weight, strength and energy throughout the 2010 season and helped the Irish to an undefeated November and four-game winning streak to close the season.
Notre Dame is one of only 17 Football Bowl Subdivisionschools to employ a full-time sports dietician in its athletics department.Erika Whitman, Notre Dame’s sports dietician, continually provides accurate and up-to-date nutrition education to student-athletes and coaches. Including nutrition as an integral component of all training programs enables Irish athletes to achieve optimal health and maximize performance.
Fans that attend the cooking seminar with Kelly and Johnson will have a chance to win one of 10 pairs of tickets to a Notre Dame football game this year and an autographed football from Kelly. Two pairs of tickets to the games against South Florida, Michigan State, USC, Navy and Boston College will be awarded Thursday evening.
Kelly will not be available for media interviews this evening and there will not be autograph signings at this event.
