10K customers in Ind. city overcharged on bills

A computer glitch is being blamed for a billing error in Goshen that led to overcharges on more than 10,000 property tax bills.

A city official says the glitch was recently discovered in software used to calculate this year's installment of Goshen's annual storm water user fee.

That resulted in an overcharge for about 10,600 customers who apparently own non-residential parcels of land.

The city's stormwater board hopes to send out an updated bill by this fall to address the overcharging.

Elkhart County's treasurer has asked the company that makes the problematic software to pay the estimated $7,000 cost of sending out those corrected bills.
