You've likely heard of Jerry Lewis and the MDA telethon; and you've probably seen local bikers join the ABATE ride motorcycle fundraiser for MDA. It’s going to be a big weekend for both of those events, but there’s also a local nun who’s doing her part.

Sister Agnes Marie Regan may have the face of an angel but she’s done some time.

“They finally busted me for doing good things,” Regan said.

This sister from the Order of Saint Francis was locked up for MDA and still has the warrant to prove it. She was handcuffed and hauled away, much to the surprise of a Franciscan friar.

“He had no idea what was going on and he was standing there, like, you can't do this to a sister!” Regan added.

A local MDA spokesperson says Sister Agnes Marie is blessed with great fundraising skills. She earned her bail money in no time with the help of her friends, divine intervention and the internet.

“She signed up on the website. She called and just wanted a little help to post it on her Facebook and her Twitter page. She just fell in love with the cause. Muscular Dystrophy encompasses over 40 diseases. It’s basically just neuromuscular diseases that affect muscles the way kids move. It doesn't necessary affect just kids.”

It's the children that Sister Agnes Marie thinks about and prays about.

“Your heart just goes out to them. The rest of their life they have to use this wheelchair, their faces are radiant, just filled with joy and happiness,” Regan said.

Sister Agnes Marie has been a nun for 50 years. She's very active in the community and she's not slowing down. So far for the MDA she’s raised $1100 and counting.
