North Liberty promises to be a ‘nicer place to live’ for senior citizens.
Construction should start this spring on a new subdivision for seniors age 62 and up who meet income guidelines.
The North Liberty Senior Community will eventually consist of at least ten duplexes.
“It’s going to start with five buildings ten units and then the second phase will be the same thing, five more buildings ten more units so in all it'll be ten duplex lots for the first two phases to be built this year and next,” said Robert Palm with Palm and Associates. There's 28 lots, but only ten will be developed in the beginning as duplexes and its unsure how those remaining lots will be developed as the project progresses.”
The duplexes will be built on land owned by the Town of North Liberty. The town also agreed to pay for the subdivision streets, as well as sewer and water lines.
The property in question is off State Road 4, east of Henry.
The owner of the subdivision will be H.A.O. Properties, a not for profit with headquarters in Mishawaka.
An official with the Housing Assistance Office Inc. says that half the units have already been spoken for.
