S.B. Chicken debate reset for January

An ordinance that would allow chickens in the South Bend city limits will not be up for a final vote at tonight’s council meeting, as originally scheduled.

At a joint council committee meeting last week, problems were identified with the language that deals with enforcement of the ordinance, so the matter was reschedule for the council’s January 14th meeting.

The proposed ordinance would allow up to a half dozen female chickens per residence in South Bend, provided the coup was 20 feet from the nearest home and 15 feet from the lot line.
