Guilty plea in St. Joe Co. petition fraud case

One of the four St. Joseph County Democrats accused of petition fraud pleaded guilty this morning.

Bev Shelton entered guilty pleas to felony counts of Forgery and Falsely Making a Petition. In exchange, the prosecution dropped eight other charges.

Shelton has agreed to testify truthfully in all related pending cases. The prosecution has agreed to recommend a sentence without executed jail time.

Shelton’s sentencing is set for May 9th.

Pam Brunette, Dustin Blythe, and former party chairman Butch Morgan face similar charges and are scheduled to go to trial next month.

The case alleges that fraudulent petitions were created to get Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama on the 2008 primary election ballot.
