Alcohol possible factor in high speed police chase

A 32-year-old Three River's man is in custody after leading Edwardsburg police on a high speed chase.

Just before midnight Friday, police saw a driver make an illegal U-turn at the intersection of U.S. 12 and M 62.

The suspect fled and led police on a short pursuit, traveling at a high rate of speed through a school zone. The driver could not make the 90 degree turn at the corner of Section and Max St. and drove off the road, striking several boulders and coming to rest near a tree.

The driver quickly got out and tried to flee by foot, but was quickly caught by officers.

The man, whose name is being withheld pending his arraignment, was arrested on suspicion of Fleeing and Eluding a Police Officer, Resisting and Obstructing a Police Officer, OWI 3rd Offense and Driving While License Suspended.
