When it comes to your health as you age, are you more worried about gaining weight or going blind?
If you are like a majority of Americans the potential for vision loss ranks much lower on the list of concerns.
A report from the American Academy of Ophthalmology predicts 43-million Americans will develop age-related eye diseases by the year 2020.
The academy is now recommending all adults regardless of symptoms or risk factors get screened for eye diseases at age 40, when early symptoms can begin to show up.
While the risks of such conditions increase with age, just 10-percent of adults age 65 and older considered themselves at risk in the new report.
Eye diseases such as macular degeneration can lead to severe vision loss and even blindness.
