One person was killed this morning near mile marker 95 on the Indiana Toll Road in Elkhart County.
Police say a Ford Aerostar veered off the eastbound lanes of the highway and struck a guardrail. The passenger door was ripped off the van and 20 year-old Brett W. Francis of Sodus, MI was ejected.
He was taken to Elkhart General Hospital and was pronounced dead. Police say he was not wearing a seat belt.
The driver of the van, 21 year-old Andrew P. Zielbauer of Buchanan, MI was arrested for DUI causing death. Police say his blood alcohol count was .17%, more than twice the legal limit.
Another passenger, Cory Thomas, also of Sodus, ran from the crash and was found passed out at C.R. 6 and Sylvan, about a mile from the site. He was arrested for public intoxication.
The Indiana State Police will pass this information along to the Elkhart County Prosecutor's office for review and possible further charges.
