There's huge economic news out of Starke County tonight.
Some 500-new jobs could soon be heading to the area.
Sysco Corporation has authorized the construction of a food redistribution center in Hamlet.
The project has been on hold for the better part of the past three years.
Less than two weeks ago, News Center 16 first reported on encouraging signs that the project would move forward.
Today it was announced by the Starke County Development Foundation that Sysco approved the project at its November Board of Directors meeting.
The Starke County Commissioners today responded by re-starting the bidding process for the public improvements phase of the project.
The list of needed public improvements includes a new water tower, well field, and sewer mains.
Sysco is a global leader in selling, marketing, and distributing food products to restaurants.
The 700,000 square foot operation in Hamlet is expected to create 500-new jobs and will include freezer, refrigeration, and dry storage areas.
