Women on Target Clinic held Sunday

Men are not the only ones who know how to use a gun. The NRA program Women on Target Clinic was held Sunday.

More than a dozen women showed up at the Bend of the River Conservation Club in Niles to practice using a firearm. NRA certified instructors taught the course to women only.

The class is designed to introduce the basics of gun safety and handling. Before shooting, the women were told to where safety glasses and ear muffs first for their protection.

The women also learned how to properly load, fire and reload their firearm. The goal of the clinic was to inform those who have never touched or have never been around guns.

"The primary reason that we are here is education,” explains Pat Legatt of the Bend of the River Club in Niles, Michigan. “People tend to be afraid of what they do not understand. So, thereby instructing them and showing them how to do it. The proper and safe way to do it, we remove that fear factor."

Instructors said that this program allowed these women to get their feet wet and remove the intimidation of the male counterpart looking over their shoulder.
