A 44-year-old Niles woman pled “no contest” to the charges that she caused the death of three adults and one infant in a fiery car crash in 2011.
Cecelia Cheney appeared in a Cass County Circuit Court on Friday morning and accepted the offense of committing a ‘Moving Violation Causing Death’ on Oct. 9, 2011. Cheney was driving on US 12 in Milton Township when she crossed over the center line and crashed head-on into another vehicle.
Cheney was taken to the hospital at the time to treat her injuries, but the family of four in the other car did not survive. Curtis Stone and Stacey Garza of Mishawaka both died, along with their baby, Devon, and grandmother, Kathleen Marks.
Charges of involuntary manslaughter and reckless driving were both dismissed as a result of Cheney’s plea in court Friday morning, and a sentencing hearing will be set in the near future.
