Are you prepared for winter weather driving when you head to work Friday morning?
Captain Phil Trent of the South Bend Police Department says if people don't give themselves extra time, and they're in a hurry, that's when they see a spike in accidents during rush hour. He also told us about a particular area to watch out for.
“The one thing you're going to see Friday is, the U.S 31 bypass/St Joseph Valley Parkway is notorious for turning into a skating rink,” explains Captain Phil Trent of the South Bend Police Department. “What we will see inevitably is a large spike in crashes up on the bypass. It's a higher speed limit, so we'll see higher speed crashes and we'll see a lot of damage done to vehicles because that gets really really slick and a lot of times people just cannot force themselves to slow down.”
Trent also tells us the Street Department is going to be ready and waiting with abrasives and salt for the roadways.
