Authorities are searching for a battery suspect who allegedly tried to run over a state trooper in northeastern Indiana.

State Police Sgt. Ron Galaviz says the trooper fired on the man before the suspect fled the scene of the altercation Tuesday in Noble County about 20 miles northwest of Fort Wayne. The trooper wasn't hit and police don't believe the man was struck by gunfire.

Galaviz says the man was suspected in a battery just outside the town of Albion when the trooper came upon the suspect near Big Lake and the Whitley County line.

Galaviz says a church daycare in the area has been locked down and that all of the children there have been accounted for.

He says police dogs and an aircraft are participating in the search.
