Whirlpool challenged some Penn High Schoolers to develop innovative products and services that would address the needs of consumers aged 17-30.
This is the second year in a row the two have paired to develop solutions for consumers.
This year's students are part of the Stem Academy at Penn, and today's final presentation at Whirlpool's headquarters in Benton Harbor was the product of 2 and a half months of student work, conducting field research and putting together a final proposal.
The 8 competing teams presented their projects to Whirlpool's Innovation team. And to get to today, the final teams had to compete against 100 students in their STEM program back in September.
Ideas ranged from home tablets to a mini fridge that encourages healthy eating. And faculty say all of the ideas give students preparation for their futures. And the hands-on experience is extremely beneficial this early on in their educational careers.
