Here is what a local doctor says is "new with the flu" in 2013.
According to Dr. Dale Patterson, the director of family medicine residency at Memorial, flu shots are readily available. No longer will people have to wait for the vaccine.
Children 2 and older are eligible for flu "mist" instead of a shot. People over 49 should not use the mist.
An intradermal flu shot, which has a smaller needle, is available for people aged 18-64, who may be nervous about a shot.
And a new study was also released claiming the flu shot can reduce the risk of a second heart attack.
Doctors recommend getting a flu shot now, to prevent the annual sickness.
