SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- An emotional 24 hours ends with a water cannon salute for the Notre Dame women's basketball team.
The team walked away with a 37-1 record.
Wednesday afternoon, they were welcomed home under a rainbow of water at the South Bend airport.
The Notre Dame women's basketball lost 79-58 to arch rival UConn in the national championship game Tuesday night, ending the careers of three Irish seniors.
“It makes you feel so good knowing our fans were behind us no matter what.” Coach Muffet McGraw said. “It was a great season disappointing at the end but I think we have to remember all the good stuff.
“It feels good to have this welcoming,” senior Kayla McBride said “I think we have some of the best fans in the country so to be able to come back from a tough loss, it's definitely a good feeling."
