A Warsaw woman faces murder charges, after hiding out in a closet and waiting to kill the father of their two children.
Thursday night, the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department was called out to a mobile home, south of North Webster near the Barbee Lake Chain.
Two 911 calls came in: one from a friend injured at the scene and another from a child.
Police say the mother, Sonya Armontrout, 42, was hiding inside the mobile home when she jumped the father of her children Steven Carman, 51.
He was walking into the home with a friend and their two daughters, ages 5 and 6.
Armontrout jumped out and shot Carman and then stabbed him. She continued following him through the mobile home’s hallway and finally shot him in the head.
The mother and father had never been married but were well known among local enforcement with domestic disputes concerning child custody battles.
During Thursday night's shooting the two young girls ages were there when there mother and father were taken away. In fact one of the girls called 911.
Sgt. Chad Hill from the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department says, “It’s very very tragic that someone is killed and a life is taken. It compounds it even more when you add in the factor that there were two small children that had nothing in this at all, that might have witnesses all of it last night.”
The two girls are now staying with Carman’s parents. Carman had custody.
A friend was walking in with the dad when shots were fired.
His name is Joseph Glant, 54. He was grazed by a bullet and called 911 from outside also. He is listed in stable condition at the local hospital.
