A Warsaw man is behind bars Monday night after police say he tried to hit a woman with his pick-up truck and then led officers on a drunken, cross-town chase.
Robert Garcia, 36, is facing a slew of charges, from resisting law enforcement and battery, to criminal recklessness with a motor vehicle.
Last Saturday night, an off-duty officer saw Garcia and a 38-year-old woman fighting inside a pick-up truck on west Market Street.
He started to drive off, but then backed up toward her instead as she ran away, in an apparent attempt to run her over.
The woman was able to get away and hide, and Garcia took off, leading police on a high-speed pursuit through Downtown Warsaw.
He tried to flee on foot after his pick-up lost control and stopped in a ditch about four miles away, but he was tasered by police and taken into custody. Garcia is now being held in the Kosciusko County Jail.
The female victim, who was also intoxicated at the time, was treated for head and hand injuries she suffered during the fight.
