The man who led police on a chase through Marshall and Starke Counties on Monday was a wanted felon.
The chase started around 6:30 Monday morning just south of Koontz Lake when an officer spotted a black pickup truck whose driver was wanted on meth charges and failure to appear in court.
Police say the driver, Julius Novitzke, led them on a chase which went into Marshall County. He then drove through an area which was blocked off due to crews fighting a fire.
Novitzke came inches from running into a firefighter.
After leaving the area, he drove into a corn field, ditched his truck and left on foot.
He is being held on charges of resisting law enforcement and reckless driving along with his outstanding warrant. He is being held without bond.
