Miami Beach Police say more than 40,000 fans attended ND Pep Rally

Miami Beach Police now say more than 40,000 fans attended the Notre Dame Pep Rally in South Beach Saturday night, that featured legends Lou Holtz, Tony Rice, Mike Golic Jr, and Joe Theismann among others.

The party was just getting under way in South Florida as Notre Dame fans invaded the area, driving down the streets with ND flags and shouting out the windows of their cars.

All of the excitement down in South Florida is bringing up good memories for former players.

“I am thinking about the old times when I played back in the day,” says Tony Rice, the quarterback on Notre Dame's last national championship team in 1988. “This is what it is all about, Notre Dame playing for a National Championship, Alabama good tradition, now that is going to clash. Who is going to win and I say the Irish are going to win big time.”

“I am so caught up in it being an alum and a former player, and even more now with two kids on the team and my daughter here as well,” explains Mike Golic Sr. “I have gotten to know so many of these players over the years that I feel like they are my surrogate kids as well. It is so much a family thing as well as a school and Alma Mater thing. I am really caught up in it and I cannot wait for kick off.”

The Official Pep Rally was held Saturday night which included the Notre Dame Marching Band marching down the streets lined with ND Fans cheering them on. People lined up on the beach for the pep rally and why not with some big ND Alumni and Coaches speaking at the event.

“It reminds me an awful lot of 1988 with the excitement and enthusiasm,” says Lou Holtz, the coach of that team in 88. “I believe it is going to be a great night for the Irish on Monday night. But this is just amazing to see the enthusiasm and excitement. College football is better when Notre Dame is on top.”

“It is a sea of Notre Dame Fans as far as you can see down this beach there are Notre Dame fans,” explains former Irish quarterback Joe Theismann. “I knew we would have a good turn out for this Saturday night, I felt like we would but not like this. It speaks so much of the University of Notre Dame and the love towards the University.”

A chaotic but fun day out there for all Notre Dame fans on the beach in Miami.
