Local BMX star Brett Banasiewicz is making strides in his recovery after a terrible biking accident last fall.
Bansiewicz is currently at an outpatient facility in Texas undergoing physical therapy to recover from his injuries. In August, 2012, the Washington High School senior was put in a medically induced coma after he sustained a serious head injury in a BMX accident.
His physical therapist, Sheri Walters, has been working with Banasiewicz at Athlete’s Performance gym in Dallas, and has seen tremendous improvement.
“I've been working with Brett for the past three weeks and I've been amazed by the progress that he's made, from the improvements in his gate to his ability to use his left arm in his daily activities, he's made huge strides in the last three weeks. I've also been impressed by his work ethic and his dedication to getting better,” says Walters.

Even though he may be in rehab, Banasiewicz is still making headlines. He was recently named Toyota USA’s 2012 Athlete of the Year.
