Three teenagers and a seven-year-old were still in the hospital Thursday night after their SUV crashed into a tree in Berrien County earlier this week, according to reporting partners at WSJM.
It happened around 5:30 Monday night on Rericho Rd., South of Shawnee Rd. in Lake Charter Twp.
The four victims were found trapped inside the vehicle and emergency crews had to use the jaws of life to free them from the wreckage.
Beau Maitland, 16, a New Buffalo high school student, was driving the SUV.
The three passengers were Kegan Hart, 18, a Bridgman High School student; Braden Huffer, 7, a new Buffalo Elementary School student; and Steven Ireland, 19.
According to the Baroda-Lake Township interim police chief, speed was a factor and the SUV drifted off the road.
The accident remains under investigation.
