The Notre Dame football team lost a lot of great players from the 2013 squad on the defensive side of the ball including Louis Nix, Stephon Tuitt, Bennett Jackson and Prince Shembo.
But new Defensive Coordinator Brian Van Gorder has a huge piece returning in sophomore linebacker Jaylon Smith.
"He's an awfully good player," Van Gorder says. "He's still learning and he approaches it every day with a great attitude. He wants to learn, he wants to improve, he wants to get better and the physical traits are obvious."
Smith doesn't come off as a sophomore. He acts, talks, and looks much older. The positives are that he is just a sophomore--which means he's just going to continue to grow as a player.
"Just a really, really good football player that carries a great attitude into it so its going to be exciting just watching him get better week by week but he's a high impact player," Van Gorder added.
