Students at Valparaiso University held a rather unconventional fund-raising event Friday on campus. The college's President Mark Heckler and Provost Mark Schwehn suited up for a sumo wresting match.

Both men donned blow up sumo suits to take each other on in battle.

The event was held after Valpo students with the campus charitable group SALT, or the Social Action Leadership Team, raised $1,000 towards their ultimate semester goal of $12,500. The money will go to help build a preschool school in Tanzania.

Heckler and Schwehn faced off. Heckler won two out of their three matches. Then students who had bought raffle tickets were randomly drawn to take their turn in the ring.

When asked if he ever imagined sumo wrestler would become part of his job description Heckler replied, "No. There's always this little phrase that says other duties as assigned, and this happens to be it. So you never know folks, when you're going to be wearing one of these as part of your job."

So far the students have raised more than $9,000 towards their goal.
