The St. Joseph VNA Home Care celebrated a big milestone Monday.
The home care facility is celebrating 110 years of service in Michiana.
Mishawaka Mayor Dave Wood and Bishop Kevin Rhoades joined the celebration on Monday.
The facility has a long history as it was created by Anne Studebaker to help provide nursing care to the needy.
Now after more than a century, they employ nearly 100 nurses, therapists, social workers and home health aides.
"Home Care provides one of the most intimate settings of care for a patient,” said Jane Boulding, the center’s executive director. “In the early days it was simply a nurse with a bag in the home with the patient, today that same nurse may go into the home with a bag, but inside of the bag are some of the most highly advanced, technological advances provided for nursing services. I think that's one of the big differences."
Here's a fun fact, the community held bake and jam sales, and organized a Vaudeville show to help get the home care started back in 1902.
