Use caution for outdoor winter sports

With colder weather comes ice, which can be hazardous to those who like spending time outdoors.

Indiana conservation officers want citizens to put safety first.

At least four inches of ice is recommended for safe ice fishing and five inches for snowmobiling on frozen lakes.

Make sure to wear a life jacket or another flotation coat, and carry ice hooks and rope gear just in case.

Officials caution that ice conditions can change within just a few feet.

So if you don't know, don't go.
