It was an emotional day in court Monday as murder was added to the list of charges five men face for their alleged involvement in a home break in and stabbing.
The men are accused of breaking into a home in the 1000-block of Michigan St. in South Bend just two days after Christmas.
One of the defendants was visibly emotional in the courtroom today as all five defendants simultaneously stood before the same judge for their initial hearing.
The facts surrounding the incident are tragic, five people inside the Michigan St. home were injured with stab wounds ranging from superficial to critical. One of the victims, Sandra Price, 67, has since died of severe blood loss due to the stab wounds she sustained to her neck.
Monday’s hearing was so crowded that 20 would-be spectators were not allowed into the courtroom. As the case proceeds, the same judge will not handle each of the individual five cases. A decision has been made to randomly re-assign each case.
