Newscenter 16 has some encouraging news about BMX star Brett Banasiewicz, whose condition continues to improve after a bad accident in August while practicing in Virginia.
The Washington High School senior suffered a serious head injury from the fall, and remains hospitalized.
Banasiewicz, 17, was weaned off sedation last week and on Friday, his mom, Lisa, said Brett opened his eyes on his own for the first time and was able to keep them open for four hours.
She's calling it a "miracle day" and says she can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel.
Brett will stay in Virginia for as he continues to recover.
