A new report provides some major insight into needs of St. Joseph County residents.

Data compiled by the United Way of St. Joseph County shows almost a quarter of residents live in poverty, with chronic instability and stress.

In addition, both Mishawaka and South Bend Community Schools have a dropout rate of more than 10 percent, and nearly a third of St. Joseph County residents are obese, compared to the 25 percent national average.

The results of this study will help the United Way of St. Joseph County decide how to prioritize funding over the next few years.
