SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Lane closures are finally in effect as crews continue to finish off the final part of the new U.S. 31 bypass to Indianapolis.
The restrictions were expected to begin last month but have been delayed.
Starting Monday and lasting through much of the summer, U.S. 31 will be down to one lane in each direction between Kern and the bypass interchange.
Johnson Road will also be closed at U.S. 31 between Main Street and South St. Joseph Street to build a new bridge.
Crews began work by taking down traffic lights and poles at the intersection of Johnson and U.S. 31.
