Notre Dame Dean Greg Crawford moved to day nine of his “Road to Discovery” bike trip on Friday as he rode through New Mexico.

This is the fourth year that Crawford has biked across the country to raise awareness and funding for Niemann Pick Type C Disease which killed three of former Notre Dame football coach Ara Parseghian’s grandchildren.

Crawford started this year’s ride in Long Beach, Cal. on June 27. He will ride across the country and end the trip on August 2 in Baltimore.

On Friday, Crawford put in 95 miles winding his way through New Mexico.

After his Fourth of July ride on Thursday, he wrote in his blog, “When I experienced the celebration of our Independence Day, I thought of how much I look forward to the celebration when we conquer Niemann Pick.”

When Crawford finishes his ride this summer, he will have biked more than 11,000 miles and raised $300,000 toward that goal.
