A 22-year-old white male from Warsaw died Wednesday afternoon at Lutheran Hospital, where he had been flown from an early morning crash near Warsaw.

Crews responded to the 3000-block of North County Road 150 West just before 5:30 a.m.

They arrived to find 22-year-old Michael Keener of Warsaw lying in the roadway and transported him to the hospital by ambulance.

Investigators believe Keener was walking southbound on County Road 150 West when the driver, 46-year-old Darrell Young of Warsaw, hit him.

Young was also driving southbound and says he did not see Keener until the last minute due to the dark clothing he was wearing.

According to Young, Keener also appeared to be crossing the road and he tried to swerve, but hit him. His car hit a utility pole and came to rest on the east side of the road. Young was not injured.

Keener’s cause of death is listed as blunt force trauma, and the manner of death is categorized as an accident.

The incident remains under investigation by the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department and the Allen County Coroner’s Office.
