Two people are recovering after an early Sunday morning crash involving a police officer.

The crash happened around 6 a.m. at the intersection of Lincolnway and Byrkit in Mishawaka.

A South Bend Police officer was headed east when a dark Nissan t-boned his squad car.

The impact caused the officer's car to slide into a nearby traffic signal pole. The pole then fell on top of the car.

The officer was trapped in his squad car but was eventually able to get out.

Both the officer and a passenger in the other vehicle suffered minor injuries.

Police tell Newscenter 16 that they do not believe alcohol or speed were factors in this crash.

The officer was transported to Memorial Hospital to be checked out.

Police are still investigating the crash.
