Two Michiana families are safe though their homes suffered damage in separate fires Wednesday night.
Elkhart Fire was called to a residence in the 27000 block of County Road 24 just before 11p.m. Crews on the scene say the fire likely started in the chimney and spread to the rest of the house. Fortunately no one was injured.
Around the same time, South Bend Fire crews were handling a blaze in the 900 block of Beale, near Keller Park and the intersection with Cushing. The fire started in the front room and spread to one other room, but it was quickly put out. No one was home when the fire started. A cause has not been determined.
