UPDATE: Two charged in Lighthouse Mall robbery

MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. Two people have been charged after robbing an elderly man at the Lighthouse Mall in Michigan City on Wednesday.

Willie Jones and 29-year-old Kenisha Simpson appeared in court Friday. Both are being charged with robbery, Class A, and aggravated battery, Class B, plus fraud, Class D. These are all felony charges.

Jones and Simpson are being held on a $100,000 cash bond for robbing a 70-year-old man and his wife in the Lighthouse Mall parking lot. The victims were inside their car when Jones demanded the woman’s purse. After stabbing the man, Jones took the woman’s purse and ran.

Jones was apprehended Wednesday evening. He and Simpson will be arraigned December 23.

The victim is in stable condition after undergoing surgery for his injuries.

The Michigan City Police Department and Lighthouse Premium Outlets have stepped up security patrols for the remainder of the holiday season.
