ELKHART People in the City with a Heart will be trudging to support downtown business. On Saturday, Pillars of Elkhart is hosting it's 5th annual "Trudge for Suds" event.
The idea is to support local business during what's typically the slowest time of the year. Ten bars and restaurants are taking part in the "tour," giving folks the chance to experience something they may not have tried before.
The theme is "Black and White and Red all over," and people are encouraged to dress to the nines to compete for prizes. Organizers say they want to see glitz and glam downtown, to prove Elkhart can overcome the snow and cold.
"People want to stay in, kind of hibernate," said Meggan Fink, the co-chair of Trudge for Suds. "We're trying to get people out, mingle, spend money downtown and support the local businesses."
Fink says the event brings in big money for downtown establishments.
"Trudge for Suds actually brought in the same amount of revenue as the night before Thanksgiving," said Fink. "So, it's definitely a big event, which is awesome for the businesses of downtown."
