Prayers were said Thursday night for a Mishawaka woman who was murdered by her husband back in August.
About a dozen friends and community members gathered this evening in the parking lot of Cinemark Movies, near the Hickory Village apartment complex where Trina Winston was killed. They held a vigil in her honor, reciting prayers and messages of peace.
Organizers say their goal was to send a message of encouragement and support to the victim's family.
“They have experienced a great loss but that the community is with them and cares about them and has a commitment to them to end this violence,” Rev. Tina Velthuizen, of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church.
Tarrence Lee was convicted last week of murdering Winston. He had already served some two decades behind bars, for two previous murder convictions from 1987.
Lee is scheduled to be sentenced on December 21. He is facing up to 65 years in prison.
