"Trash" and "cancer," are two words you may not expect in the same sentence. But in this case, the two combined have raised some serious cash for cancer research.

After two successful years, the "Trash Cancer" program has raised over $40,000 for research at IU-Health Goshen Center for Cancer Care.

Borden Waste-Away offers residential customers in Northern Indiana and Southern Michigan the option to donate (as low as) $1 to their monthly bill, which Borden will match at the end of the year. Customers can also choose to use a pink trash bin to raise awarness for the cause. Those donations go to the Goshen Center for Cancer Care to fund research for cancer treatment.

The program is based off the motto, "to pay it forward," as one of the founders survived Melanoma. Judy Bialka and the Borden Waste-Away Group started the program in 2011.

There are at least 2,000 pink trash cans, and over 1,000 customers donating to the cause.
