South Bend, Ind. Transpo is waiting for final proposals to redevelop the 10-acre riverfront property that was formerly the site of the corporation’s headquarters.
The property at the corner of Notre Dame Avenue and Northside Boulevard is within walking distance of three schools and the farmer’s market.
Housing options have been proposed in recent years but Transpo says it’s still open to an array of "creative proposals."
“We're happy about the interest shown so far but really we're just waiting to see what comes in on April 11,” said David Cangany, Transpo’s General Manager, referring to the date that final proposals are due.
Developers interested in participating in the RFP we’re required to notify Transpo by Feb. 21.
Transpo says it is committed to making sure the land is developed in a way that it would best suit the local South Bend community, while also providing the corporation with the best return on its investment.
“It’s part of being a good partner for the community,” Cangany said. “As an organization that really spurs economic development by getting people to work, the healthcare, to entertainment -- we have the opportunity to have our old piece of property developed into something great for the city.”
