Traffic fatalities put on roadside signs in Mich.

A statewide safety campaign will display the number of traffic fatalities on Michigan roadways on electronic signs.

The Michigan Department of Transportation says it hopes motorists take note of the project, which begins Wednesday, and runs through November.

The signs will be displayed one day per month along roads -- including interstates and highways.

MDOT says the current number of deaths is more than 400.

They say the effort is a simple and inexpensive way to contribute to a zero deaths effort.

According to MDOT, several other states post similar messages on signs.
