Cass County A head on crash in Cass County Monday afternoon sent three to the hospital, including a four-year-old girl.

On Tuesday morning, we learned that the young girl, Adrianna Chanthavongsavath, died from her injuries.

A pickup truck and car were coming from opposite directions on U.S. Highway 12 in Edwardsburg, just after 4 p.m. They collided near the Old 205 intersection.

Rescue crews had to extricate Linda Chanthavongsavath, 25, of Vandalia from the car, and she was rushed to the hospital with her daughter. Linda remains in the hospital, but she is in stable condition.

Edwin Powless Jr., 75, of Ostego was also taken to the hospital.

Police say they do not believe alcohol played a role in this crash.

The Cass County Sheriff's Office originally reported that a child safety seat was not in use at the time of the crash.

On July 17, Captain Lyndon Parrish explained that the county investigators had enlisted the aid of a Michigan State Police crash reconstructionist in determining how the crash occurred.

"It should be noted that the previous information regarding the use of the child restraint seat was incorrect," Parrish explained. "The investigation to this point shows that the child appears to have been in an appropriate child restraint seat at the time of the crash."
