Three of the so-called Elkhart Four are appealing their convictions for felony murder.

None of them pulled the trigger, but since they were committing a crime at the time of their friend's death, Indiana law holds them responsible.

Blake Layman, Anthony Sharp and Levi Sparks have all filed appeals, asking that their convictions be thrown out, or their sentences reduced.

A fourth person, Jose Quiroz, pleaded guilty to felony murder, so he cannot appeal.

He is serving 45 years in prison.

Their friend, Danzele Johnson, was shot and killed during a home invasion in 2012.

The homeowner actually fired the gun.
